BIOGRAPHY

Iga Świątek was born on 31 May 2001 in Warsaw, Poland. She burst onto the scene with an extraordinary 2020 French Open title as a 19-year-old unseeded player — the first Polish woman to win a Grand Slam title. What appeared to be a precocious one-off soon revealed itself to be the opening chapter of a dominant era.

Świątek won four French Open titles in five years and held the world No. 1 ranking for a record 109 consecutive weeks between 2022 and 2023. Her clay-court dominance is near-unmatched in the modern women's game — her Roland Garros winning percentage across multiple years surpasses even Steffi Graf's peak. She added the 2022 US Open to demonstrate her ability on hard courts too.

Her quarterfinal defeat to Rybakina at the 2026 Australian Open (7–5, 6–1) was unusually one-sided — reflecting both Rybakina's exceptional form and perhaps the aftermath of a demanding 2025 season. At 24, Świątek remains one of the two or three best players in women's tennis and will be motivated to reassert herself at Roland Garros in May.
